Meaning of A-tan's last name ?

Hi all !

If one already read the manga, one knows that A-tan's full name is Tennosu Atene.

Does anyone have an idea of what is the exact meaning of that her family name ? I already searched a bit on the web, and found no explanation...

My guess is that it's an adaptation of "Thou noesis" in Greek, which means "divine intelligence" : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athena

But a few lines later on Wikipedia, one reads "deity's (theos) mind (nous)", so her name may have that meaning.

I think that the first meaning is the most probable, but one can also asks himself if Hata-sensei didn't want to play on both meanings, since Atene's mind is quite troubled, like the minds of most Greek gods.

Unless it was simply something more straightforward ; in kanjis, Tennosu is written like that 天王州. From what I've read, the first two kanjis mean "king of heaven"...

Any thoughts ? Not knowing the correct explanation has left me in despair !

天王州 is Tennos.

The Japanese call Uranus, Neptune and Pluto:

天王星 - Uranus (Sky King Star)
海王星 - Neptune (Sea King Star)
冥王星 - Pluto (Shadow/Darkness King Star)

They obviously refer to Zeus, Poseidon and Hades.

So Tennos 天王州 means, I think, something along the lines of "Dimension of Zeus" or "Land of Zeus". Because Zeus was the strongest Olympian.

I'm starting to think Aa-tan is Greek, what with Athena there and now Zeus...
