Mai-Otome S.ifr Blu-ray (720p & 1080p)
« on: December 14, 2009, 10:12:15 PM »
Hooray for Static's first Blu-ray release!

Well, so these've been out for a while, but we wanted to tinker it to death so that it was JUST right.

We fixed up quite a few of our inadvertent relationship flubs (IE calling Bruce the king in episode 1, when he is, in fact, just a prince [more on this in the Otome forums that I'll be making a topic for in just a bit]). We've also combed through and re-done styling (somewhat smaller comparatively while adding proper shading and alpha per character), joined lines we couldn't previously due to pixel count (yay higher resolution), smoothed out further for grammar, and changed some names to reflect their "official" counterparts (though sorry, Rena will always be Rena).

In effect... we'd like to think this comes about as close to perfect as you can get, all things considered.

Please note: the 720p is designed to work with either CoreAVC or CCCP, however the 1080p will NOT work with the latest current CoreAVC (1.9.5) available without distortions. I'm sorry, we can't help you with that. Please wait until CoreAVC updates and deal with the 720p for the time being. Oh, and... I don't think this has to be said, but we won't be doing a hardsub version of this. Sorry.

Have fun out there guys!

Woot!  Congrats on the transition to true high-def.  Gotta get this for that reason alone!

Oh thank you :D :D :D

I will really appreciate it on my 1080P projector (145")

When I release TV I always make it HD :P

BTW I use media player classic with the k-lite codec pack, coreavc has always been weird and back in the day i just thought i was a bad rip off of winamp (which i no longer use either)

I must admit, I think HD (let alone boo-ray) is absurd overkill. But I can always recode, so I don't mind as much as I used to, now that .mkv has gotten a tad easier to work with. Still, I'm looking forward to giving the new version a once through when the recoding is done! :]

Watching the epic fight scene in the 1080p third episode, there seems to be some static noise in the audio at 11:03. Lasts about 3-4 seconds though.

But seriously, thanks for this.

Will you also be doing the Blu-ray for Mai-Otome Zwei? just asking, that's all. Also thanks for shakugan no shana, kannazuki no miko, mai hime, mai otome, kanon, clannad, hayate no gotoku, zero no tsukaima, wagaya no oinari-sama.

This appears to be through the mastering itself. This anomaly was present in the DVD release as well, if you compare.

With the exception of Oinari, those series are licensed in the US. Static does not provide licensed material. I don't believe there's interest for re-doing Oinari at this time.

Slightly off topic, I know, but I would absolutely get Oinari in 1080p.

As for the others, I now own discs 1 and 2 of Hayate on DVD.  Yours is better, and in high-def, too.  But at least there are some special features on the DVDs, and since I liked the show, I'm 'voting with my wallet'.  I'll wait for a good price on a box set for Shana

I swore though that I'm going to wait until I can buy a blu-ray player for under $100 CAD.  Until then, I'll stick to DVD.
