Dropping Slayers Revolution
« on: August 16, 2008, 10:31:06 AM »
Yes, this is a sad day.  We received a cease & desist order from FUNimation Entertainment asking us to stop the fansubbing of Slayers Revolution.  We, both Static-Subs and Eclipse Production, have agreed to comply with their statement.  It is unfortunate that we have to stop working on such a great show; however I hope you all understand the decision we are making.  Thank you for your support for the 6 episodes we have released.  Please enjoy the rest of the show when the DVD gets released in your local area.  See you again on our future projects.

Ah nuts... guess it's better they asked to stop this instead of closing down the entire SS and Eclipse group. Thanks for subbing as much of the series as you could before this happened.

Thanks for subbing this show. Now I guess I don't have any other means of watching this show since it does not air nor does it sell in my area :/

That is a shame indeed. FUNimation ruins the "fun" in anime, rather contrary to their name. What brothers me is that I know they will not subtitle it correctly, and they will likely make an overly flowery dubbed version that is not at all deserving of such a classic series. Though, I believe this was their intent all a long when they picked up the original series in the first place and 're-released' it without making any changes or improvements to the Subtitling.

Not to mention making really bad DVDs with pore codecs... *cough*

Just a spare, but big, thank you.

Take it in stride and use the extra cycles for other things. Ganbatte!

They will probably (90% possibility) remove explicit material, censor the mostpart of the conversations and no kara :(

I figured it would happen sooner rather then later, with it being a popular series to begin with. Ah well, thanks for the great job you guys did for the first 6, I appreciate your hard work!

Just a quick note, FUNimation hasn't actually licensed the series, but was contracted by the creators in Japan to enforce their rights in North America. It is unknown if they will actually license it.

It likely will, since Funi has ammassed a large number of anime recently; especially if they picked up the original series.

Sad, but it's just a part of the business. Consider them saving you some time ^_^.

Please keep the flames down in here, please. Complaining about the company here will not have any influence on their practices.

If you want to encourage them to improve quality and live in their market region, send a nice and well-written letter to them explaining what you would like to see and how it would help them. Remember, they are a business and a financial justification is needed before they will take the expense of doing more. Also, flames directed at them will be disregarded and placed in the circular file, or used as proof that anime fans are cheap and thieves. Don't spread that perception.

Ah no, this can't be happening... Now we will have to wait forever until we can watch the show -_-

Anyway, thanks for the good work up to now.

I'm not going to slam Funi for attempting to look out for a future prospect--I'd do the same in their shoes.  What I want to know is why do they think themselves in the right to send out a C&D when, as far as I've researched (and please prove me wrong if I am--I'll be satisfied then), they don't have the license to Revolution.  It seems little more than scare tactics.  Can someone shed some light on this?

As it was stated earlier in this thread, it was contracted by the creators in japan to enforce their rights in north america. This was also discussed in the fansubber and industry panel on Otakon. If you want to know some more, view the discussion on ANN, where it was said that they needed help with this issue and FUNimation agreed to help. I think that 'tis they have right to do this, but I I'll be damned if they don't come up with a new way to let me watch episode 7 and beyond in a relatively short time! ^.^
